Description
Grab your favorite sandwich and give it a little spooky makeover… so easy and so fun! These Halloween sandwiches are perfect for a themed lunch, a quick dinner before trick-or-treating or a cute addition to your Halloween party spread.
Ingredients
- square cheese slices (cheddar, havarti, gouda, etc.), 1 per sandwich
- bocconcini (small mozzarella balls), 2 per sandwich
- pitted kalamata olives, 1 per sandwich
- toothpicks, 2 per sandwich
- buns, croissants or bread (whatever you like for your sandwich)
- sandwich fillings (meat, veggies, spreads – choose your favorites)
Instructions
- Cut the cheese slice into “teeth”: Use a paring knife to cut a zigzag edge along one side of the cheese slice to form jagged “teeth”.
- Make the eyeballs: Use a paring knife or a wide straw (my fave trick!) to punch a hole in the center of each bocconcini. Cut a pitted kalamata olive in half width-wise and press each half into the holes, cut-side out to make creepy eyes. Stick a toothpick into the bottom of each eyeball and set them aside.
- Build the sandwich: Make a sandwich with your favorite fillings (meats, veggies, spreads) and leave the top piece of bread or bun off for now.
- Add the spooky touches: Place the cheese slice on top with the zigzag “teeth” peeking out a little from the edge, then add the top bun or bread. Finish by poking the “eyeballs” into the top. And there you go – your spooky sandwich is ready! Repeat the process to make as many as needed for your Halloween lunch, dinner or party spread.
Notes
- Making a bunch of Halloween sandwiches? Stack your cheese slices and cut them all at once – so much faster than doing them one by one! You can also prep the “teeth” and “eyeballs” ahead of time and keep them in containers in the fridge. Then when it’s go time, all that’s left is assembling the sandwiches and adding the spooky finishing touches!
