Description
If you’re a fan of mojitos and love fresh berries, say hello to the summer cocktail of your dreams! This mixed berry mojito recipe combines sweet summer berries with classic mojito ingredients for the perfect summer sip.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup mixed fresh berries (e.g. 3 blackberries, 3 raspberries, 4 blueberries and 2 quartered strawberries)
- 1/2 lime, cut into wedges
- 1 teaspoon honey or sugar (or to taste)
- 5 fresh mint leaves
- 2 ounces (1/4 cup) white rum
- ice cubes or crushed ice
- 4 ounces (1/2 cup) chilled club soda or sparkling water
- Optional garnish: sprig of fresh mint, slice of lime, some fresh berries
Instructions
- Muddle berries and lime: Add the berries, lime wedges and honey or sugar to a tall cocktail glass. Muddle until the berries and lime wedges break down.
- Gently muddle mint: Add the mint leaves and lightly muddle just a few times to gently bruise.
- Add remaining ingredients: Pour in the rum and fill the glass about 2/3 of the way full with ice. Give it a stir to combine. Top with chilled club soda or sparkling water. Gently stir again.
- Garnish and serve: Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint, slice of lime and a few fresh berries if you like. Serve with a thicker straw for easy sipping and enjoy!
Notes
- Special Equipment Needed: You will need a muddler (or something to muddle with). The handle of a sturdy wooden spoon, the end of a thinner rolling pin or the tamper that comes with some blenders like Vitamix can also be used to muddle the ingredients if you don’t have a muddler.
- Berries: Use a mix of your favorite fresh summer berries. I used a mix of blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries but you can use any combination you like or even just a single type of berry.
- Don’t over muddle the mint! Or the mojito may end up tasting bitter and you’ll have tiny bits of mint throughout the cocktail that get stuck in your teeth. This is why I suggest adding the mint after the berries and lime have already been muddled. Once you add the mint, just a few taps with the muddler is all it takes to gently bruise it, releasing the oils for a refreshing minty flavor.
- Make it a mocktail: Simply leave out the rum for a refreshing berry mojito mocktail.
- For a pitcher (8 servings): Place 2 cups mixed fresh berries, 4 limes cut into wedges and 3 tablespoons honey or sugar in a pitcher and muddle until berries and lime break down. Add 40 mint leaves and lightly muddle again. Pour in 2 cups white rum and 4 cups chilled club soda or sparkling water and give it a stir to combine. Serve in garnished glasses filled with ice.
