Description

Savory Halloween Witch Fingers! If you’re looking for a spooky appetizer or snack that is quick and easy to make… this is it! Simply prosciutto wrapped cheese sticks with a creepy Halloween twist. You’ll find two versions below – pick your favorite or make a mix of both!

Ingredients

Scale

For the cheese fingers:

  • 10-12 cheese sticks (mozzarella, cheddar, gouda, havarti, etc.), see notes for details
  • thinly sliced prosciutto (1-2 slices per cheese stick)

For the fingernails:

For the “glue”:

  • cream cheese or red colored preserves/jam/jelly

Optional:

  • pesto or fresh basil leaves (for olive version)

Instructions

Version 1: Olive Fingernails with Pesto or Basil

  1. Wrap the cheese fingers: Spread a bit of pesto on the cheese stick or tuck a fresh basil leaf around it (optional).  Wrap tightly with 1-2 slices of prosciutto.  Repeat with remaining cheese sticks and set them on a platter or board.
  2. Make the fingernails: Slice black olives in half lengthwise.  They will already have a natural nail shape but you can trim them with a paring knife to have a more pointy tip if you like.
  3. Attach the nails: Place a dab of cream cheese on the back of each olive piece and press onto one end of each prosciutto wrapped cheese stick.

Version 2: Almond Fingernails with Bloody Preserves

  1. Wrap the cheese fingers: Wrap each cheese stick tightly with 1-2 slices of prosciutto.  Place on a serving platter or board.
  2. Add the “blood”: Add a dab of red colored preserves, jam or jelly to one end of each prosciutto wrapped cheese finger.
  3. Attach the nails: Gently press a Marcona almond (or sliced almond) into the preserves so a little seeps out around the edges to look like a bloody nail bed.

Notes

  • Cheese: You can grab a brick of cheese and cut your own sticks (about 3-4 inches long and ½ inch thick) or just use those individually wrapped cheese snack sticks or string cheese from the store.
  • Preserves: Pick something with a reddish color for that bloody effect. There are lots of options – choose something that you would typically serve with cheese on a charcuterie board.
  • Variation: The almond fingernails could also be attached with cream cheese if you prefer.
