Description

Looking for something delicious to throw on the BBQ? Try grilling marinated steaks – they’re always a hit! Easy to prepare, tender, juicy and incredibly tasty!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of steak (see notes)
  • 1/2 cup steak marinade
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Make marinade: Mix together the marinade if making a homemade one. (I love this easy steak marinade).
  2. Marinate steaks: Place steaks in a covered glass dish or large freezer bag and pour the marinade over top. Massage or toss the steaks around until all sides are coated in the marinade. Place in the fridge and let the steak marinate for up to 12 hours (aiming for 4 to 8 hours).
  3. Preheat grill:  Preheat on high until it reaches 500F.
  4. Prep steaks for grilling: Remove the steaks from the marinade and pat dry with paper towel. Either oil the grill or the steaks (your choice). Season steaks lightly with salt and pepper.
  5. Grill steaks: Sear steaks over high heat for 2-3 minutes per side. Check the internal temperature and then either lower the heat to medium-low or place the steaks over indirect heat to finish cooking to your desired level of doneness (see notes for steak internal temperature and doneness chart).
  6. Rest and serve: Transfer the steaks to a cutting board or plate and allow them to rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Cuts of steak: Since the steak will be marinated, you don’t need to grab the most expensive cut. I typically don’t marinate filet mignon which is naturally super tender. Where the marinade really shines and can make a huge difference is with the somewhat tougher, less expensive cuts of steak. However, you can choose any grilling steaks you like! I recommend purchasing from a local butcher or farmers market. Another option is a quality meat delivery service like. ButcherBox or truLOCAL.
  • Use a thermometer: For a perfectly grilled steak that is not overcooked, make sure to use an instant read thermometer. My favorite is the Thermapen!
  • Steak Internal Temperature and Doneness Chart: Pull the steaks off the grill once they reach 5 degrees (F) below the desired degree of doneness (the internal temperature will continue to rise a bit while resting). Example: For medium rare, remove from grill when the internal temperature reads 125F.
    • Medium Rare – 130F
    • Medium – 140F
    • Medium Well – 150F
