3 Reasons I Love These Halloween Margaritas
OK, how fun are these for Halloween?! I had so much fun turning this fantastic blood orange margarita into a cute and spooky Halloween cocktail. Here’s why I love them!
- They’re fun and spooky! That gorgeous blood orange color is naturally perfect for Halloween. A few simple spooky garnishes make them extra fun and Halloween-ready!
- So easy to make! Just a few ingredients and about 5 minutes. That’s my kind of cocktail!
- Perfect for Halloween parties! These are such a fun drink to serve at Halloween gatherings. Mix up individual drinks or mix up a pitcher. I’ve included instructions for both in the recipe card below.

Ingredient Notes
Here’s what you’ll need to make these blood orange Halloween margaritas:

Detailed ingredient list and directions located in the recipe card below.
- Blood Orange Juice: Freshly squeezed is best! You’ll need about one blood orange per margarita.
- Tequila: Use a good quality tequila that you enjoy! Blanco or silver tequila has a cleaner, more neutral flavor that lets the citrus shine and keeps the blood orange color vibrant. Reposado tequila has a warmer, more aromatic flavor that pairs beautifully with the blood orange. Both work great!
- Orange Liqueur: I like Cointreau for this margarita.
- Lime Juice: Fresh is a must here! Each margarita uses roughly the juice of one lime.
- Honey: A touch of honey helps to balance out the flavors. You can also use agave nectar or simple syrup.
- Ice Cubes: For shaking everything together and keeping your margarita nice and cold.
- Spooky Garnishes: Rim your glass with Hawaiian black salt, Tajin, or both. For the cute and spooky garnish, you will need some dried or dehydrated blood orange slices and candy eyeballs or small plastic spiders. So easy, but so fun!

Tools You’ll Need
- Cocktail Shaker: I like the cocktail shakers with built-in strainers to keep things simple at home.
- Jigger: A cocktail jigger is so helpful! Makes measuring out your cocktail ingredients quick and easy.
How To Make A Blood Orange Halloween Margarita
These Halloween margaritas are basically my favorite blood orange margarita dressed up for Halloween! A spooky-colored rim and the cutest (ok… spookiest!) little garnish make them extra fun. And they’re really easy to put together too!

- Rim the glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip it into Hawaiian black salt, Tajin or a mix of both. Instant spooky vibes!
- Make the spooky garnish: Cut a small slit in a dried blood orange slice (about half way) so you can slide it onto the side of the glass later. Attach candy eyeballs or a little plastic spider with a dab of thick honey, melted chocolate or icing. So cute and spooky, with hardly any effort!
- Shake up the margarita: Add 2 ounces (60 ml) fresh blood orange juice, 1 ½ ounces (45 ml) tequila, 1 ounce (30 ml) orange liqueur (I like Cointreau), 1 ounce (30 ml) fresh lime juice and 2 teaspoons honey to a cocktail shaker. Add a handful of ice, cover and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.
- Pour and serve: Fill the rimmed glass with ice cubes and strain the blood orange margarita over top. Add your spooky garnish by sliding it on the edge of the glass and you’re ready to sip!
Tip: Runny honey works best here! If yours is too thick, stir it with a little warm water in a small bowl to thin it out so it mixes easily into your margarita.

Perfect For Halloween Parties
Make a Pitcher
Having people over for Halloween? Make a pitcher so you can spend less time mixing drinks and more time enjoying the party! This makes 8 margaritas.
Combine 2 cups fresh blood orange juice, 1½ cups tequila, 1 cup orange liqueur, 1 cup fresh lime juice and ⅓ cup honey (or to taste) in a pitcher. Stir well and pop in the fridge until needed (up to 12 hours).
When it’s party time, pour into prepared glasses filled with ice, add your spooky garnishes and you’re good to go!
Customize It
- Go sweet: Swap the salt or Tajin rim for black, orange or red sanding sugar.
- Make it spicy: Toss a few jalapeno slices into the cocktail shaker and rim your glass with Tajin.
- Add some smoky flavor: Swap the tequila for mezcal or rim the glass with smoked salt.
- Make it bubbly: Top your margarita with a splash of soda water for a little fizz.
FAQ
Try Cara Cara oranges! They have a sweet, reddish flesh that works beautifully in this margarita.
Absolutely! The pitcher version can be stored in the fridge for up to 12 hours. Wait to pour and garnish until you’re ready to serve.
The trick is to dip the glass at an angle instead of turning it upside down! Spread the black salt, Tajin or both on a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass. Then hold your glass at a 45-degree angle and gently dip just the outside edge into the salt, rotating as you go until the entire rim or the section you want is coated. This helps keep the salt out of your drink!
