  2. So easy to make! I’m not super talented with fancy decorating techniques (and honestly don’t have the patience) – so trust me, this is simple!
  3. These spooky little spiders are perfect for Halloween gatherings – cute, creepy and so fun.

What You’ll Need

Let’s get started! All you need is three things to make these easy Halloween spider snacks.

Labelled photo of ingredients needed to make spider energy balls.
  • Energy Balls: Energy balls, bliss balls, energy bites – whatever you want to call them, just pick your favorite one (store bought or homemade). Chocolate works best for the black spider look. I used these homemade chocolate bliss balls for mine.
  • Candy Eyeballs: Candy eyeballs work like magic to instantly turn any snack into a Halloween themed treat.
  • Licorice Laces or Fruit Leather: Black licorice laces work really well for the legs. If you don’t like black licorice, grape licorice laces are a good substitute since they are also darker in color. Or you could also get a darker variety of fruit leather (e.g. blueberry or blackberry) and cut it into thin strips.

How To Make Halloween Spider Energy Balls

Let’s turn some energy balls into spooky-cute spiders! It’s so easy!

  1. Make or purchase energy balls: Make your favorite energy ball recipe or buy them at the store. I’m using these chocolate energy balls.
  2. Add eyeballs: Press two candy eyeballs on each energy ball.
  3. Attach legs: Cut the licorice laces into pieces to create the spider legs (or cut fruit leather into thin strips). Insert 4 legs on each side of the energy ball.
  4. Repeat: Repeat with the rest of your energy balls to make as many spiders as you like.

Quick tip

Use soft energy balls

It’s easier to decorate soft energy balls (like date based ones which tend to be soft and sticky) since the eyeballs and legs can easily be pressed in. If using homemade energy balls that have been stored in the fridge, simply allow them to come to room temperature first to soften before decorating.

Notes

  • Tip – Use soft energy balls. It’s easier to press the eyeballs on and stick the legs in when the energy ball is soft. Date based varieties like these homemade chocolate energy balls work well since they tend to be soft and sticky. If using homemade energy balls that have been stored in the fridge, simply allow them to come to room temperature first to soften up before decorating.
