What You’ll Need

Here’s what you’ll need to make these Halloween sandwiches…

Labelled photo of ingredients to make easy Halloween sandwiches.
  • Buns or bread: Use whatever you love to make your sandwich with – buns, croissants, bread – anything works here!
  • Favorite sandwich fillings: Pile on your go-to meats, veggies and spreads to make it your own.
  • Cheese slices: One square cheese slice per sandwich will be used for the “teeth”. Any type works – cheddar, havarti, gouda, etc.
  • Bocconcini: Two small balls of fresh mozzarella cheese per sandwich for the eyeballs.
  • Pitted kalamata olives: One olive per sandwich, sliced in half to finish off the eyes.
  • Toothpicks: Two per sandwich to secure the eyeballs.

How To Make Easy Halloween Sandwiches

Turning your favorite sandwich into a cute and spooky one takes just two simple steps: cut a cheese slice into jagged “teeth” and make eyeballs from bocconcini and olives. That’s it! Super easy, totally cute and fun. Ready? Let’s walk through it step-by-step.

Step 1: Cut the cheese slice into “teeth”

Take a square slice of cheese and use a paring knife to cut a zigzag edge along one side to form jagged “teeth”. And don’t let those little cut-out bits go to waste… snack break!

Step 2: Make the eyeballs

Grab two bocconcini (small mozzarella balls) for each sandwich. Use a paring knife or a wide straw (my fave trick!) to punch a hole in the center of each one. Cut a pitted kalamata olive in half (width-wise) and press each half into the holes, cut-side out to make creepy eyes. Stick a toothpick into the bottom of each eyeball and set them aside.

Step 3: Build the sandwich

Make a sandwich with your favorite fillings (meats, veggies, spreads) and leave the top piece of bread or bun off for now.

Step 4: Add the spooky touches

Place the cheese slice on top with the zigzag “teeth” peeking out a little from the edge, then add the top bun or bread. Finish by poking the “eyeballs” into the top.

And there you go – your spooky sandwich is ready! Repeat the process to make as many as needed for your Halloween lunch, dinner or party spread.

Quick Tip

Making a Bunch?

If you’re planning on making a lot of sandwiches, stack your cheese slices and cut them all at once (way faster than doing one at a time!). You can also prep the “teeth” and “eyeballs” ahead of time and stash them in containers in the fridge. Then when it’s go time, all you have to do is assemble your sandwiches and add the spooky touches!
