3 Reasons You’ll Love These Creepy Charcuterie Fingers

  1. So easy! Just prosciutto wrapped cheese with your choice of “edible fingernails”. A quick and simple Halloween snack.
  2. They look spooky but taste so good! The perfect mix of creepy and delicious.
  3. Made for Halloween parties! These are such a great Halloween appetizer. Think of them as the savory version of witch fingers. Fun to serve, easy to grab and guaranteed to disappear fast.

What You’ll Need

All you need is a few simple ingredients to make these creepy Halloween fingers!

Labelled photo of ingredients for charcuterie witch fingers.
  • Cheese: Mozzarella, cheddar, gouda, provolone, havarti – choose whatever you love! You can grab a brick of cheese and cut your own sticks (about 3-4 inches long and ½ inch thick) or just use those individually wrapped cheese snack sticks or string cheese from the store.
  • Prosciutto: You will need one to two thin slices per cheese stick to wrap around.
  • Black Olives or Almonds: For the “fingernails”, you can use black olives (cut in half) or almonds. If going with almonds, Spanish marcona almonds taste amazing and work really well but sliced almonds (blanched or natural) are easy to find and still give a fun look.
  • Cream Cheese or Preserves: This is your glue to hold the “nails” on. Cream cheese works with both olives and almonds. If you’re going for that “bloody nail bed” effect, use a red-colored variety of preserves, jam or jelly (best with the almond version!).
  • Fresh Basil or Pesto (optional): For the olive version, try adding a basil leaf or a little dab of pesto before rolling up. Totally optional but adds a nice flavor!

How To Make Savory Halloween Witch Fingers

Creepy, cheesy and totally delicious – perfect for parties or a Halloween snack board. I made two different versions (because why not?), and both are so fun and easy. Pick your favorite or make a mix of both!

Version 1: Black Olive “Fingernails” + Pesto or Basil

This one features black olives for the “fingernails” and includes some pesto or fresh basil for added flavor.

  1. Wrap the cheese stick: Add a bit of pesto along the cheese stick or tuck a fresh basil leaf around it and tightly wrap up with one or two slices of prosciutto. Repeat with the remaining cheese sticks and set them on a platter or board.
  2. Make the “fingernails”: Slice black olives in half lengthwise. They will already have a natural nail shape but you can trim them with a paring knife to make them more pointy or shape them the way you like.
  3. Attach the nails: Place a dab of spreadable cream cheese on the back of each olive piece and attach them to the ends of the prosciutto wrapped cheese sticks. So creepy and fun!

Version 2: Almond “Fingernails” + Bloody Preserves

This version uses almonds for the “fingernails” and some preserves for a “bloody nail bed”. I used Spanish Marcona almonds (the shape of these is so perfect for this and they’re delicious too!). Sliced almonds (blanched or natural) work as well. For the preserves, pick one with a reddish color (something that you’d serve with cheese on a charcuterie board).

  1. Wrap the cheese stick: Wrap one or two slices of prosciutto tightly around each cheese stick. Arrange them on your serving board or platter.
  2. Add the preserves: Add a dab of red colored preserves, jam or jelly to the end of each of the prosciutto wrapped cheese sticks.
  3. Attach the “fingernails”: Gently press a Marcona almond (or sliced almond) into the preserves so a little oozes out around the edges to look like a bloody nail bed. Perfectly gross and delicious!

Description

Savory Halloween Witch Fingers! If you’re looking for a spooky appetizer or snack that is quick and easy to make… this is it! Simply prosciutto wrapped cheese sticks with a creepy Halloween twist. You’ll find two versions below – pick your favorite or make a mix of both!

Ingredients

Scale

For the cheese fingers:

  • 1012 cheese sticks (mozzarella, cheddar, gouda, havarti, etc.), see notes for details
  • thinly sliced prosciutto (1-2 slices per cheese stick)

For the fingernails:

For the “glue”:

  • cream cheese or red colored preserves/jam/jelly

Optional:

  • pesto or fresh basil leaves (for olive version)

Instructions

Version 1: Olive Fingernails with Pesto or Basil

  1. Wrap the cheese fingers: Spread a bit of pesto on the cheese stick or tuck a fresh basil leaf around it (optional).  Wrap tightly with 1-2 slices of prosciutto.  Repeat with remaining cheese sticks and set them on a platter or board.
  2. Make the fingernails: Slice black olives in half lengthwise.  They will already have a natural nail shape but you can trim them with a paring knife to have a more pointy tip if you like.
  3. Attach the nails: Place a dab of cream cheese on the back of each olive piece and press onto one end of each prosciutto wrapped cheese stick.

Version 2: Almond Fingernails with Bloody Preserves

  1. Wrap the cheese fingers: Wrap each cheese stick tightly with 1-2 slices of prosciutto.  Place on a serving platter or board.
  2. Add the “blood”: Add a dab of red colored preserves, jam or jelly to one end of each prosciutto wrapped cheese finger.
  3. Attach the nails: Gently press a Marcona almond (or sliced almond) into the preserves so a little seeps out around the edges to look like a bloody nail bed.

Notes

  • Cheese: You can grab a brick of cheese and cut your own sticks (about 3-4 inches long and ½ inch thick) or just use those individually wrapped cheese snack sticks or string cheese from the store.
  • Preserves: Pick something with a reddish color for that bloody effect. There are lots of options – choose something that you would typically serve with cheese on a charcuterie board.
  • Variation: The almond fingernails could also be attached with cream cheese if you prefer.
