Love mangos? Love mojitos? If you said yes to both then this Mango Mojito recipe is the cocktail for you! A classic mojito with a fun tropical twist – this mango infused version is super refreshing and perfect for summer sipping!

Reasons To Love This Cocktail

If you like mojitos, then you are going to love this delicious mango version! I tested out a number of variations to find the best one (it was a tough job but someone had to do it!). Lime wedges vs lime juice, muddling chunks of mango vs just mango nectar vs using a combination and so on. All that testing resulted in a new favorite summer cocktail that I hope you love as much as I do!

  • Perfect for summer: This is a fun and refreshing summer cocktail perfect for sipping on hot summer days!
  • Refreshing and delicious: Such a fresh tasting cocktail with a tropical twist – the sweetness of mango combined with zesty lime and refreshing mint leaves is absolutely delicious!
  • Easy to make: You can make it right in the serving glass – no need for a cocktail shaker!
  • Great use for mint: If you grow mint in your herb garden in the summer, then you know it can grow like a weed. This cocktail is a great way to use some up!
  • Easy to scale: Make a single drink or a full pitcher for entertaining. The recipe card at the bottom includes instructions for both.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Ready to make a mango mojito? Here is what you’ll need…

Labelled photo of ingredients needed to make a mango mojito.
  • Mango Chunks: Either freshly cut mango or thawed frozen mango chunks.
  • Lime: Fresh lime cut into wedges is key! Muddling the lime wedges adds so much more flavor than just using lime juice since it also releases some of the aromatic oils from the skin. The difference is amazing!
  • White Rum: White rum is traditional in a mojito (sometimes also called light rum or silver rum). Don’t use a dark rum or a spiced rum. The subtle flavor of white rum lets the flavors from the mango, lime and fresh mint shine through.
  • Fresh Mint Leaves: It’s a must-have in a mojito!
  • Club Soda or Sparkling Water: For the refreshing fizz.
  • Mango Nectar: I like to add some mango nectar to really let the mango flavor shine in this drink. It is a beverage made from mango pulp and juice (found in most grocery stores).
  • Honey or Sugar: I like to add a bit during the muddling stage for a touch of extra sweetness but it is optional. The sweetness from the mango nectar might be enough for you.
  • Ice Cubes: Or crushed ice.
  • Garnish: This is optional but I like to garnish with a fresh sprig of mint and slice of lime.

Detailed ingredient list and directions located in the recipe card below.

Equipment Needed

  • A tall glass: Preferably you want to use a taller glass like a Collins glass or highball glass. However, I have also used a mason jar before (so use what you have!).
  • Muddler (or something to muddle with): If you make loads of cocktails like mojitos, I recommend getting yourself a muddler. However, if you only make them on the rare occasion, you can also the handle of a sturdy wooden spoon, the end of a thinner wooden rolling pin or the tamper that comes with some blenders like Vitamix.
  • Straw: I find a mojito much easier to drink with a straw. I like to use a thicker straw so that pieces of the muddled mango don’t get caught. Reusable straws are great to keep on hand at home and come in so many options like stainless steel, glass, bamboo and silicone.

How To Make A Mango Mojito

Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, the rest is super easy! Learn how to make the perfect mango mojito at home…

  1. Muddle mango and lime wedges: Add the mango chunks, lime wedges and honey or sugar (if using) to a tall cocktail glass. Muddle until the mango and lime wedges break down.
  2. Muddle the mint: Add the mint leaves and lightly muddle just a few times.
  3. Add remaining ingredients: Pour in the rum and mango nectar and add a handful of ice cubes. Give it a stir to combine. Top with chilled club soda or sparkling water. Gently stir again.
  4. Garnish and serve: Garnish with a fresh sprig of mint and slice of lime. Add a straw for easy sipping and serve!

TIP: DO NOT over muddle the mint or it will taste bitter. This is why I add it after the mango and lime have already been muddled. Once the mint is added, just a few taps with the muddler is all it takes to gently bruise it to help release the fragrant oils.

Making A Pitcher

Mango mojitos are perfect for summer entertaining! You can either line up a number of glasses and quickly make them individually or put together a pitcher!

To make a pitcher of mango mojitos: Muddle the mango chunks, lime wedges and honey or sugar directly in a pitcher. Add the mint leaves and lightly muddle again. Pour in the rum and mango nectar and give it a stir to combine. If not serving immediately, stop at this point (cover and place in the fridge for up to a few hours). Once ready to serve, add ice cubes to the pitcher and pour in the club soda or sparkling water. Serve in glasses filled with ice, then garnish with extra mint and lime wedges, if desired.

Measurements for a pitcher that serves 8 can be found in the recipe card notes below.

Variations

  • Make it a mocktail: Simply leave out the rum for a refreshing mango mojito mocktail or virgin mango mojito.
  • Substitute the rum: Swap the white rum for vodka or gin.
  • Add some heat: Muddle in some fresh jalapeno, habanero or serrano pepper slices for a spicy kick.
  • Make it smooth: I quite enjoy the little chunks of mango in this mojito from muddling. However, if you prefer a smoother drink, you can either use mango puree in place of the mango chunks (store bought or made by placing mango chunks in food processor or blender) or muddle/prepare the drink in a cocktail shaker and strain into your glass.

FAQ

What is a mojito?

A mojito is a light and refreshing classic cocktail from Cuba. Traditionally, it consists of white rum, fresh limes, fresh mint, sugar and club soda. This mango mojito recipe puts a tropical spin on it by infusing it with the flavors of sweet mango.

Can you make a mango mojito mocktail?

Absolutely! Simply omit the rum from the recipe.

Can you make a mojito without a muddler?

Definitely! A muddler is handy to have if you make a lot of cocktails at home. However, you can also use the handle of a sturdy wooden spoon, the end of a thinner rolling pin or if you have a Vitamix, the tamper that comes with it works great as a makeshift muddler.

Why does my mojito taste bitter?

If you muddle the mint leaves too much, your mojito may end up tasting bitter. This is why I suggest adding them after the mango and lime have already been muddled. Once you add the mint, make sure to just gently bruise it a few times (don’t pulverize it!). The result is a refreshing minty flavor!
